George Eliot's Silas Marner

with Bruce Bigley

Class Description

A Gem of a Novel with a Poor Reputation George Eliot wrote two perfect novels, Middlemarch and Silas Marner. Silas Marner suffers under a cloudy reputation because it was inflicted on many of us as Sophomores in High School. I believe no one should read it before the age of 40. It shares many of the same features as Dickens' wildly popular Christmas Carol. Except Christmas, of course. It is a delightful hybrid of realist novel and moral fable. Find a copy and join us for a novel you have never really read. Thursdays, 10:30 – 12:00, *Class meets for 4 sessions: 4/3, 4/10, 4/17 & 4/24 INSTRUCTOR ZOOM Class Limit: 20
