Class Description
How do composers actually compose music? How do they fashion rhythm, melody, harmony, instruments and structures? What roles do inspiration and formal systems play in the creation of music, wherever it is written, and in whatever style? For that matter, what does Brahms have in common with Herbie Hancock's 'Maiden Voyage' and 'Born Under A Bad Sign" by the rock group Cream? Come find out! Chuck Roxin studied with composers Walter Piston, Vincent Persichetti, Elliot Carter and Earl Kim. He has also worked with or has known composers David Diamond, Paul Creston, Kent Kennan, Edgar Varese, Aaron Copland, Howard Hanson, Sam Jones, Michi Wiancko and others. His own compositions have been performed in the US, Canada and Japan, although not recently. He is a member of the New Music Commissioning Club of the Seattle Chamber Music Society.
